What is Alignment? It may not be what you think...
Updated: Aug 10
What in the world is alignment? How do you know if you have it? Are you in alignment? Are you out of alignment? What does it even mean to be purely aligned?
In this article, we will delve into the meaning of alignment and explore its significance in our lives. Whether you are already familiar with the term or it's new to you, we will dig into different perspectives and definitions to gain a clearer understanding. Additionally, we will examine the concept of being purely in alignment and its relevance to our overall well-being and success.
So my first question for you is, are you aware you have a conscious and an unconscious mind?
You might call it your subconscious or unconscious.
Alignment is when your conscious and subconscious actually line up when your thoughts and behavior are in agreement
To understand the dynamics of our conscious and unconscious minds, let's visualize a tree. Focus on what you can observe above the surface—the sturdy trunk, the sprawling branches, and the lush leaves. This represents our conscious mind, where we make decisions, formulate strategies, and set goals. Just as the visible parts of a tree comprise its surface, our conscious mind represents the visible aspects of our thinking process.
It is the realm where we consciously create plans and methods to achieve our desired outcomes. This analogy helps us grasp the concept of the conscious mind and its role in our mental processes.
So what lies beneath its surface?
Trees possess extensive roots that extend far beyond what meets the eye. These roots can disrupt sidewalks, break through pipes, and even penetrate foundations. Just as the unseen roots of a tree hold significant power and influence, our unconscious mind operates similarly. It remains hidden beneath the surface, and we often have limited knowledge of its depth and breadth.
Our unconscious mind, or subconscious, plays a crucial role in determining our actions, or lack thereof. It houses our self-esteem, doubts, fears, beliefs, and the programming that shapes our behaviors. Like the roots of a tree, our unconscious mind holds profound influence, often dictating our thoughts, choices, and actions from beneath the surface.
So my definition of being purely aligned is based on what I learned from NLP is when your conscious and your unconscious actually line up. That means my thoughts, my ideas, my conscious, and my behavior are actually in agreement. That is the foundation of alignment.
Let's explore the disconnect between our conscious intentions and our unconscious actions. Consider a scenario where you set goals to go to the gym regularly, eat healthily, and engage in various exercises. However, when the time comes, you find yourself not following through. In society, we tend to label this as procrastination, lack of motivation, or a lack of discipline, often suggesting that we need more accountability or consistency. It's common to view it as a personal failing, associating it with laziness or a deficiency.
However, I want to offer you a new perspective. It's not a lack of something that hinders your actions; it's something within your unconscious mind that prevents you from taking the desired steps. When there is a misalignment between your conscious and unconscious, it can lead to inaction or a struggle to follow through.
This insight forms the foundation of what I teach, and I stand firmly behind it. Instead of labeling ourselves as lazy or unmotivated, we should recognize that something is happening beneath the surface. There is a deeper underlying cause, and once we identify and address it, taking action becomes effortless. I encourage you to reflect on your own life and identify areas where you may have experienced a lack of follow-through.
The journey to pure alignment is learning to become more authentically you, not someone else. Understanding the importance of alignment has been a transformative journey. It is a realization that pure alignment encompasses more than just inspired action. It involves delving into the depths of our unconscious, uncovering the patterns and beliefs that hinder our progress. It requires
discernment in choosing the right mentors and programs that resonate with our authentic selves.
Alignment is an ongoing process, and it's natural to encounter challenges along the way. However, by embracing the truth that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with us, we can embark on a path of self-discovery, making the necessary adjustments to realign with our true desires.
In the quest for alignment, there are four essential pieces that pave the way to living authentically. It's crucial to understand that life is not a linear path, and true fulfillment isn't reserved for a future version of ourselves. Instead, it involves daily adjustments and self-reflection, allowing us to make small tweaks along the way and inch closer to pure alignment.
Step 1: Vision - Begin by envisioning what you truly want in life. Take time for self-reflection and reconnect with your true essence. Clarity about your desires will serve as a guiding light on your journey to alignment.
Step 2: Disrupting Patterns - Conduct an alignment audit and identify the gaps in your life. What areas are not aligned with your aspirations? By recognizing these misalignments, you can make intentional adjustments to bridge the gap and bring your life closer to your desired state of alignment.
Step 3: Energy and Intention - Evaluate the energy and intention behind your actions. Are you motivated by a desire to fit in or prove your worth, or are you genuinely pursuing activities that bring you joy and fulfillment? Shifting your energy and intention towards authentic happiness is key to maintaining alignment.
Step 4: Inspired Action - Take inspired action towards your aligned vision. It's important to remember that even the smallest steps can make a significant difference. By consistently taking action aligned with your true self, you open the door to experiencing profound alignment in every aspect of your life.
Embarking on this journey requires a willingness to make the necessary adjustments. It's time to awaken to the realization that you may have unconsciously chased external validations throughout your life. Through guidance and self-discovery, I am here to support you in achieving pure alignment and unlocking the transformative power it holds.
